Background

Granulocyte/Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF) is a multifunctional cytokine that plays a critical role in hematopoiesis, immune regulation, and cell proliferation. Originally identified for its ability to support the in vitro colony formation of granulocyte-macrophage progenitor cells, GM-CSF also promotes the growth and differentiation of erythroid, megakaryocyte, and eosinophil progenitors. GM-CSF is produced by a wide variety of cell types, including T cells, B cells, macrophages, mast cells, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and adipocytes, in response to inflammatory signals and cytokine stimulation. Human and murine GM-CSF proteins are species-specific and do not exhibit cross-species reactivity. Recombinant human GM-CSF is a 14.6 kDa globular protein composed of 128 amino acids, featuring two intramolecular disulfide bonds and two potential N-linked glycosylation sites. Due to its important role in immune cell expansion and differentiation, GM-CSF is widely used in immunology, hematopoiesis, cancer research, and cell therapy applications.
