背景介绍
SULT1A4 (sulfotransferase family 1A member 4) is a cytosolic phase II metabolizing enzyme encoded by a duplicated gene on human chromosome 16. It shares identical protein sequence with SULT1A3, using PAPS as sulfate donor to catalyze sulfation of catecholamines, serotonin, thyroid hormones and phenolic drugs. This modification increases substrate solubility for excretion. SULT1A4 genetic variants alter drug metabolism; its polymorphisms are linked to variable responses to adrenergic agents and analgesics.
