SUCNR1 has been identified as a receptor for the metabolite succinate, which functions as a metabolic stress signal in various tissues, including the liver, kidney, adipose tissue, and retina (PMID: 29968758). SUCNR1 is crucial in linking metabolic stress, inflammation, and energy homeostasis. It mediates signaling through Gq/GNAQ or Gi/GNAI second messengers, depending on the cell type and regulated processes.
