KE20035 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The rat gp130/IL6ST ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous rat gp130/IL6ST. The assay recognizes rat gp130/IL6ST. An antibody specific for rat gp130/IL6ST has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The rat gp130/IL6ST protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated antibody specific for rat gp130/IL6ST is added to detect the captured rat gp130/IL6ST protein. For signal development, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information
The interleukin 6 signal transducer (IL6ST, also known as gp130) is a ubiquitously expressed intermediate of the interleukin-6 signaling pathway, which is responsible for signal transduction and stabilization of the α-chain ligand complex. It is a highly pleiotropic shared cytokine signaling receptor that forms oligomeric signaling complexes with ligand binding cytokine receptors. Changes in gp130 activation directly can affect heart functions, such as the hypertrophic response to pressure overload and survival of myocytes.
