Product Information

KE00738 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The human CD63 ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous human CD63. The assay recognizes human CD63. An antibody specific for human CD63 has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The human CD63 protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated antibody specific for human CD63 is added to detect the captured human CD63 protein. For signal development, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information

CD63 is a 30-60 kDa lysosomal membrane protein that belongs to the tetraspanin family. This protein plays many important roles in immuno-physiological functions. It mediates signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth, and motility. CD63 is expressed on activated platelets, thus it may function as a blood platelet activation marker. CD63 is a lysosomal membrane glycoprotein that is translocated to plasma membrane after platelet activation. The CD63 tetraspanin is highly expressed in the early stages of melanoma and decreases in advanced lesions, suggesting it as a possible suppressor of tumor progression. Deficiency of this protein is associated with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome.
