Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain, The GABRD gene encodes the delta subunit of the ligand-gated chloride channel for gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This protein migrates as a 55-65kd protein in SDS-PAGE.
