Diacylglycerol kinase theta (DGKQ) is a mammalian enzyme that phosphorylates the lipid second messenger diacylglycerol (DAG) to produce phosphatidic acid (PA). This activity positions DGKQ as a central molecular switch, terminating DAG-mediated signaling (such as through protein kinase C) and initiating distinct PA-driven pathways. It is critically involved in diverse cellular processes, including the regulation of steroidogenic gene transcription in hormone signaling and synaptic vesicle endocytosis in neurons.
