Background Information
Foxp3 (Forkhead box P3) is a transcription factor that belongs to the Forkhead box family. It is a key transcription factor for regulatory T cells (Tregs) and is crucial for maintaining immune system homeostasis. Deficiency in Foxp3 can lead to immune dysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, enteropathy, and X-linked syndrome (IPEX). In mice, the expression of Foxp3 is primarily localized in the nuclei of regulatory T cells. This protein maintains immune system homeostasis by regulating the stability and suppressive function of Tregs, as well as directly regulating the proliferation and function of conventional T cells.
