背景介绍

SLC8A1, also known as NCX1, belongs to the SLC (Solute Carrier) family and the CaCA (Calcium/Cation Antiporter) superfamily. NCX1 is a bidirectional ion exchanger that can exchange sodium and calcium ions between the inside and outside of cells in a 1:3 ratio (1 Ca2+ ion and 3 Na+ ions). Under physiological conditions, NCX1 mainly transports Ca2+ from the cell interior to the exterior through the forward transport mode to maintain the low calcium level inside the cell. However, under certain special conditions, such as ischemia-reperfusion injury and stroke, the reverse transport mode of NCX1 is activated, leading to the influx of Ca2+ into the cell, which may cause cell damage (PMID: 21289289, 30686898).
