Background Information
Human kallikrein-related peptidases (KLKs) area family of 15 serine proteases mainly known for their biomarker utility in various neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases. KLKs are believed to be involved in a wide range of processes, including seminal clot liquefaction, skin desquamation, renal homeostasis, myelination, and enamelogenesis. KLK14 is possibly a key protease in the skin, contributing to approximately half of the total trypsin like proteolytic activity in the SC layer.
