背景信息

Collagen XVIII is a heparan sulphate proteoglycan, which in Western blotting occurs as a smear with a molecular weight of approximately 300 kDa, when isolated from human kidney or placenta or from chick vitreous body. Heparinase treatment reduces the molecule size to a protein core of 180 kDa. Collagen XVIII has several potential glycosaminoglycan (GAG)attachmentsites, three of which, located in the NC11, NC9 and NC8 domains, are conserved between mouse, human, Xenopus and chick samples and have also been found to be glycosylated in recombinant chick collagen XVIII produced in chick meningeal cells.
