Background

HumanKine® Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a key neurotrophin that supports neuronal survival, differentiation, and maturation in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Highly expressed in the hippocampus, cortex, cerebellum, and amygdala, BDNF is widely used as a cell culture supplement for neural differentiation, brain organoid development, and stem cell research. Produced in a HEK293 human expression system, HumanKine® BDNF closely mimics native human protein, offering enhanced bioactivity and stability. BDNF promotes axonal growth, dendritic development, synaptic transmission, and plasticity by activating the TrkB receptor, a pathway essential for learning and memory. BDNF also supports angiogenesis and endothelial cell survival. Reduced BDNF levels are linked to neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, and autism.
